Building Image Description
Guard Houses Guard house.png Guard houses are used to increase the number of defensive troops within a castle; without any guard houses, the castle's capacity is 20 troops. Each guard house allows an additional 10 troops to be placed within the castle, and a maximum of 38 may be placed. Guard houses require wood from the stockpile. The base cost of a Guard House is 400 wood.

To build a guard house in a village castle, Defences Level 1 must be researched; additional research gives access to stronger guard houses.

To build a guard house in a capital's castle, a Sergeant-at-Arms Office office must be placed and upgraded.

Guard houses are 3x3 tiles in size.

Killing Pits Man trap.png Killing Pits are deadly pits containing iron spikes, and are placed in the grounds of the castle in order to injure any attacking troops which walk over them. Killing pits may be placed anywhere within the white line (build zone) for your castle, and require iron from the stockpile to build. The base cost of a single Killing Pit tile is 100 iron.

To build killing pits in a village castle, Defences Level 2 must be researched.

To build killing pits in a capital's castle, a Sergeant-at-Arms Office must be placed and upgraded.

Killing pits are one (1) tile each in size.

Smelter Smelter.png To place boiling oil pots around your castle, you will first need to place a Smelter, which requires Iron to build. The base cost of a Smelter is 400 iron. Each smelter will provide enough oil for five (5) oil pots.

To build smelters in a village castle, Defences Level 5 must be researched.

To build smelters in a capital's castle, a Sergeant-at-Arms Office must be placed and upgraded.

Smelters are 4x4 tiles in size.

Oil Pots Oil piots.png Oil pots may be placed on any stone wall or tower within the boundaries of your castle, and require pitch to place; however, they do not require building, so may be placed with immediate effect. Oil pots tip over and set ablaze a large area when enemy troops get too close. Enemy troops take damage, friendly troops do not. The base cost for a single Oil Pot is 200 pitch.

To place oil pots in a village castle, Defences Level 5 must be researched, and a smelter must be placed in the castle. Pitch is required from the village stockpile.

To place oil pots in a capital's castle, a Sergeant-at-Arms Office must be placed and upgraded, and pitch is required from the castle stockpile.

Oil pots are one (1) tile each in size.

Moat Moat.png Moats slow down enemy attackers and need to be dug up in order to pass. Since a path is still needed, the keep cannot be completely encompassed by a moat. Moats cost gold to build. The base cost for a single tile of Moat is 20 gold.

To build moats in a village castle, Defences Level 7 must be completed.

To build moats in a capital's castle, a Sergeant-at-Arms Office must be placed and upgraded.

Moats are one (1) tile each in size.

Turrets Turret.png Turrets are special towers which contain automatically-firing archers which cannot be killed by attacking troops. These may be placed around the castle; however, unlike other towers, archers may not be placed on top of them. To stop a turret firing, it must be destroyed. Turrets require stone from the stockpile to build. The base cost of a Turret is 2,000 stone.

To build turrets in village and capital castles, a Turret Maker Level 1 must be built in the Parish Capital. The number of turrets which may be placed in a castle can be increased by upgrading the turret maker.

Turrets are 2x2 tiles in size.

Tunnels Tunnel.png Tunnels are exits outside the defendable build zone, where armed peasants may emerge to fend off attackers, e.g. catapults.

To build tunnels in village and capital castles, a Tunnellers' Guild must placed in the Parish Capital, and upgraded to at least Level 1. Further upgrades increase the number of armed peasants exiting the castle. Tunnels require no resources to build.

Tunnels are one (1) tile each in size.

Ballista Ballista Tower.png A ballista tower is a powerful auto-firing ranged weapon. Much like the turret, the ballista automatically targets and defends against attacking troops. To stop the ballista firing, it must be destroyed.

To build ballistae in village and capital castles, a Ballista Maker must placed in the Parish Capital, and upgraded to at least Level 1. Further upgrades increase the number of ballistae which may be built in the castle. Ballista towers require wood from the stockpile to build. The base cost of a Ballista is 10,000 wood.

Ballistae are 3x3 tiles in size
